MCS Projects Ltd, the organisers of the challenge days, aim to raise aspirations in young people specifically in Science, Technology and Languages. There were four challenges throughout the day including Electrical Car, Diagnostics, Robots and EFIT6.
Trevor Noble, Career Pathway Director (Engineering & Construction), said, “It’s fantastic for London South East Colleges to be able to cater for an event like this - it has such an impact on the young learners who are considering their future careers. They’re gaining insight and more exposure to science and technology. Hopefully, it will make them think about a potential career in a STEM subject.”
The popular favourite EFIT6 challenge enabled the students to use the latest E-FIT software. A ‘crime’ took place in the room, a theft of a mobile phone, the pupils then had to generate an EFIT image of the thief. Finally, the ‘thief’ returned so that their appearance can be compared with the pupils’ EFIT images. The Mayor of London, Hannah Gray, even helped decide on one of the winners for this challenge.
Brooke Smith, teacher, Colfe’s Secondary School, said, “It’s great to have days like these planned locally. The event has been extremely well organised, and the students have really enjoyed themselves.”
The 23 June marks International Women in Engineering Day – this has been a great way to celebrate. Thank you to everyone involved in the event, and we look forward to welcoming MCS Projects and more local schools next year.
