With a deep interest in economics and politics, human rights and democracy, he is determined to have a voice on lots of issues at the same time as carving a great career for himself too.
“I think the top priorities for anyone wanting to enter a career in politics should be to acquire the art of tact and diplomacy,” he says, “that is why I’m here. I want to learn everything possible about doing good business, including all of the methods used to aid effective communications, negotiations, and be persuasive and assertive. These are all essential qualities if you want to achieve success.
“I’ve always thought of myself as being a ‘people-person’ and this course is very ‘people-centric’. It teaches you about how businesses operate and how changing circumstances can affect them. It also tackles the economy and gives us insight into how it can affect communities and individuals alike. It is a truly fascinating subject.”
Being visually impaired, George makes good use of his learning support tutor Christine. She helps him with his written work and enables him to keep up-to-date and on-track and attain the levels he needs to progress further with his studies.
George continues: “Christine has been absolutely brilliant and is of vital importance to me. She is encouraging and inspiring and has enabled me to reach the level that I’m at. I’ve recently discovered that I’ve achieved distinction grades in all of my units this year."
After the successful completion of his second year, George plans to go to university to study for a degree in government and politics.
Recently, he was chosen by the Langley Park Rotary Club as an outstanding student and invited to their annual general meeting to receive his award.
Christine says: “George is a wonderful example of how a student with physical disabilities can access education and fully utilize the support and facilities available. He is working very hard towards autonomy and success and isn’t allowing anything to stand in his way.”
