As part of its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI strategy, London South East Colleges has launched a Student Grants Programme aimed at tackling inequality and promoting diversity within the College and wider community. Students are invited to apply for funding to design and deliver projects. Students who apply will attend a series of workshops covering budgeting and project management to help them deliver sustainable projects.

This development follows the establishment of a long-term Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Grant Fund in June 2020. This aims to fund community-based projects designed and managed by staff and students that will help to tackle all kinds of inequality.

"London South East Colleges serves a diverse student community within a number of London boroughs. We believe no one should experience inequality because of their identity or social background," said Janet Curtis-Broni, Chief People Officer, Human Resources. “As a social enterprise, we believe that our students and staff can play a key role in bringing about change, so we’re delighted to launch our ‘Tackling Inequality Student Grants Programme.

“We want to encourage them to be at the forefront of breaking down barriers to opportunities, identifying and closing gaps and empower them to drive change. Ultimately, we want to encourage social action and to create a new generation of social entrepreneurs.”

Shakira Martin, Head of Student Experience, Rose Bruford College and former NUS National President added: “London South East Colleges' Tackling Inequality Student Grants Programme is bold; It's a real opportunity to make a difference and I believe this generation has the power to bring about change.”
