Last week, Careers Advisors from across the London Boroughs of Bromley and Bexley and the Royal Brough of Greenwich joined us for an Introduction to green skills.
Held in partnership with JP Morgan and the AoC, the morning focused on green skills as a growth sector, looking at the green economy and how learners can access pathways into the sector. College leaders discussed the green skills programmes London South East Colleges currently deliver, as well as some examples of collaboration with employers and other colleges across the region to help address skills shortages in the expanding green industries.
The interactive session included demonstrations of equipment in the Green Skills Lab, the first of its kind in the South East, giving guests a unique opportunity to learn about the technical differences between traditional and green construction.
College leaders talked about the green skills programmes being delivered, as well as the work being done with employers and other colleges across the region to help address skills shortages in the expanding green industries.
Sarah Stocking, Careers Manager at London South East Colleges, said: "It's so important for Careers Advisors to understand about green skills so that we can give students the best advice possible. Today's session has given me lots of ideas of how we as a collective can support learners even more."
Liz Lake, Group Director Strategic Projects and Partnerships at London South East Colleges, said: "The green skills sector is growing exponentially and there more opportunities for young people than ever before. Sessions like today's really highlight a need for more collaboration with schools to ensure young people are aware of all the opportunities available to them, and more importantly, how they can access them."
