Backed by the Department of Education, Oak National Academy is an online classroom and resource hub, helping teachers and families access appropriate educational materials for their children during school closures.
The Multi Academy Trust, which is part of London & South East Education Group – will be leading on Oak Academy’s SEND numeracy strand, developing and delivering resources for children across Key Stages 1-4.
Specialist staff will focus on developing differentiated lessons to meet the needs of pupils with mild to severe learning difficulties. The Trust also expects to second some of its SEND teaching experts to deliver weekly online lessons.
Content will go live on the Oak National Academy site next week.
Dr Sam Parrett OBE, CEO of London & South East Education Group says: "We are delighted to have been selected by the Oak National Academy to develop and deliver a range of learning materials for its SEND provision and leading the numeracy strand.
"We will be drawing on the expertise of both our pre-16 school teams and our post-16 college SEND team to create high quality educational resources for parents who have children with special needs. Teachers will also be able to draw on these materials to support the face-to-face teaching that is continuing, alongside the remote learning taking place.
"It is fantastic to be involved in such an important initiative in these challenging times. We hope to make it easier for children with special needs to continue with their learning while schools remain closed by providing parents and teachers with this crucial support."
Matt Hood, Principal of Oak National Academy, says: “When we set up Oak we wanted to make it accessible for as many learners as possible, so I’m delighted that we’ve been able to work with teachers, therapists and special schools across the country to launch our new specialist offer. We’ve also increased access to the wider curriculum through signed and subtitled lessons.
“Schools who support pupils with additional needs are facing huge challenges at this time. No one knows or understands a young learner better than their parents and carers and nothing can replace the unique relationships between teachers, pupils and their families. However, we hope our new offer will go some way in helping teachers and families to support learners while schools are closed.”
