Daniel was praised for his dogged commitment to his studies and insurmountable passion and enthusiasm for his chosen subject. This year saw him pass all units of the Creative Media Production BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma with straight distinction grades. In September, he will be starting his Media and Communications BA (Hons) Degree at Goldsmiths University of London.
Daniel has been a model student throughout his course and has contributed to college life by getting involved in the student council, working as a student ambassador at enrolment and open events, and generally being very helpful and supportive to staff, students and visitors alike. He has consistently displayed exceptional leadership qualities, is adept at problem solving, and demonstrates his empathy, determination and perseverance week after week.
Collecting his award, Daniel said: “I’m totally blown away by this. I didn’t expect to win an award and it has crowned my entire experience of the college very nicely indeed. I’m very proud, as are my mum and dad.
“I have had just the best two years at London South East Colleges. I’ve learnt so much more than I expected and feel very well equipped to start university next term. I am looking to become a cinematographer; it’s a very big ambition and I’m determined to make films for a living. This course has enabled me to not just get a feel for the industry and learn practical skills, it’s also given me confidence and belief in myself and my abilities.”
His tutor, Joseph Higson said: “Daniel has made the best use of everything we can offer him here at the College. You can see him absorbing every piece of information, every morsel of insight and knowledge. It’s great to see somebody value their educational opportunity like this. Daniel is often the driving force behind production work and gets involved in all stages of a project. He has a keen eye for detail and his standards are extremely high.
“This course has enabled students to travel to some of Europe’s most influential cities. Daniel has attended all of the trips which have included Amsterdam in Holland, Flanders in Belgium and Budapest in Hungary. During each field trip, he has been at the centre of every teamwork exercise and his ideas and input have been priceless. He thoroughly deserves his award.”
