Kyle left school after completing his A levels. Despite successfully achieving an engineering A level, he chose to follow a practical vocation rather than going to university and secured employment with a bench joinery company. However, he realised this wasn’t giving him the range and variety of work he desired and decided to transfer to another employer as an apprentice that focused on site carpentry and joinery. This allowed Kyle to experience how to hang doors, fit floor joints, install stud walling, install kitchens, fit hardwood floors and install roofing - to name but a few.

Kyle is very proud of his carpentry skills and knowledge and thanks to his apprenticeship, he is able to install intricate work such as complicated stairways. Unsurprisingly, Kyle passed his apprenticeship with flying colours and was awarded a well-deserved distinction grade at his End Point Assessment.

Kyle says:

"Completing an apprenticeship with the help of London South East Colleges was definitely the best career route for me. I'm looking forward to the next stage of my career, learning Site Management in a commercial environment. One day I hope to be able to buy into the family business I currently work for."

Kyle’s apprenticeship provided him with the essential skills and knowledge needed for this section. His career progression is ongoing and he has now started to learn Site Management in a more commercial environment and intends to undertake further courses to enhance his abilities. Kyle is part of a family-run company and aspires to eventually being in a position to buy into the business.
