Twenty-three learners hosted stalls at the Greenwich Park Centre, selling unique gifts such as ceramics, stained glass and jewellery, produced during their courses. By manning stalls, ESOL learners had a chance to hone their English skills too.
120 visitors were treated to a range of learner displays as well as low-cost workshops, including wreath making. They could also able to view learner displays and take part in a selection of taster sessions; from sand blasting to stained glass, designed to give prospective students a chance to ‘try out’ a course before enrolling.
In addition, students and staff raised £68 from a fundraising raffle in support of a local Mental Health Charity, Deborah Ubee Trust. The Trust currently offers free counselling to under 18s and it aims to make its counselling and therapy services more widely available to the local community.
On holding the event, Angela Beaton said: “It has been an absolute joy to open the doors of Greenwich Park Centre to the community once again and to celebrate the fantastic work of students and staff’.
We know that adult and community and learning courses have a vital role to play in supporting health and wellbeing, so it was fantastic to share our exciting plans for 2022 with prospective students. These include short courses in Baking (delivered online), knitting and crochet.
We are also planning to launch a variety of adult employment skills focused courses; from Prepare to Care (aimed at those interested in careers in care) to Preparing to Work in schools.”
One Stained Glass learner said: “I have been attending for many years and I have learnt so much. It’s wonderful to see these events again and a fantastic opportunity to show off our work.”
