The Levels 2 and 3 Hairdressing students worked tirelessly throughout the morning to perfect their hair designs and beauty makeup effects on their chosen models. The salon was a hive of activity as they awaited the arrival of industry experts Keith Rosenberg and Alexandre De Paris from the Bright White Room - a unique salon in Balham, south London. They came along to judge the competitions and offer advice and support to students on a range of different competences.

The students paraded their queenly models in front of the judges in what was an incredible and highly exciting spectacle. Over thirty models, formed a colourful and glittering procession to show off the students’ work.

Keith said: “I was delighted to be asked to judge the competition today. I saw some fabulous work and very high standards. The students were clearly highly motivated and the talent very evident in the work on display.”

Alexandra said: “Today was all about the very glamorous side of this industry and a chance for the students to really get creative. Their final presentation had to demonstrate the mood boards they devised, the standard of the hair and makeup, the accessories, clothes and footwear - so much to get right. Well done to all of the students who took part today.”

Tutor, Lisa McKellow said: “It’s been a very busy and colourful week in the salon. I have seen just how committed and keen our students can be and I’m proud that they have all taken their industry projects very seriously. Impressing employers is very important and I think we have put on an impressive show for our guests. Congratulations to our overall winners, Ana, for Level 2, and Maliha for Level 2.”

Ana turned her model into a fairy queen complete with wings and magic wand. She said: “We’ve all had great fun today and I love getting creative. It was great to win first prize; I’ve put a lot into the design, gathering the materials and costume items and working on the mood boards. I wish we could do this every day.”

Meliha is now a double winner of this competition. Last year she produced an amazing snow queen and didn’t think she’d be able to top the achievement. This year, she did it again by transforming best friend Norhan into a beautiful mermaid queen, complete with seashells and galleon in her hair. She said: “I’m really proud to win this competition again. This year I think it was much more difficult for the judges to make a decision as the quality was very high. I took a risk with the hair and worried that I’d been a bit too ambitious. Luckily it worked and everything stayed in place. I think this is a brilliant project; it tests your inventiveness, enthusiasm and attention to detail.”
